11 Museums Dedicated to Extraordinary Women
March marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, and what better way to start things off than by honoring a few legendary women and their amazing accomplishments? While it is certainly an honor to have a plaque or statue dedicated to your name, it’s another thing to have an entire museum that pays homage to your achievements.
In Boston, Massachusetts, the three-decade collection of one woman covers three floors of a local building. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is home to around 2,000 different items including manuscripts, textiles, and art collected by Stewart during her journeys around the globe. In the quiet town of Gibonsville, North Carolina, you can find the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum, dedicated to a titan of education. During the early 20th century, Hawkins established the Palmer Memorial Institute, a prestigious school dedicated to the education of rural Black students. From the birthplace of a leader in the U.S. women’s suffrage movement to the museum dedicated to one of the first professional fossil hunters, here are 11 museums dedicated to amazing women.
